OUR MAIN INGREDIENT: SODIUM COCOYL GLUTAMATE
We want to use the kindest ingredients for people and the planet. Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, our main ingredient, is a step in the right direction. Unlike most commonly used surfactants, it’s a natural cleanser that’s gentle to the skin, and sulfate-free. Though it costs 3.5 times more than harsher cleansers we know it’s worth it. It’s considered more biocompatible as it does not disturb the proteins of the skin and is, therefore, less irritating.
So why is this ingredient not used more often? The cost. It’s more expensive to produce a FORGO refill than a bottle of liquid soap. We do hope to see a big shift in the industry soon—to lower impact and kinder to skin ingredients. Maybe even made from captured carbon or off-setting seaweeds.
We use the EWG Skin Deep rating to select our ingredients. Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate is rated at 1, making it a great choice for an effective cleanser gentle to the skin and the environment.
